The role:‍ ‍

We’re looking for a qualified carpenter to join our team full-time. This is a role with room in it — we want someone who can run a site, bring less experienced hands along, and take real responsibility, not someone who wants to be told what to do all day.

Day to day you’ll:‍

•    Work across architectural new builds, high-performance builds, and complex alterations‍ ‍

•    Lead a small crew on site and bring less experienced hands along

•    Read and work from architectural plans and detailed specifications ‍

•    Execute high-performance detailing — airtightness, thermal performance, weathertightness

•    Deal directly and professionally with homeowners on site ‍

•    Keep the site organised, safe, and running to programme

What we’re looking for — essential:

•    New Zealand Certificate in Carpentry (Level 4), or equivalent recognised trade qualification‍ ‍

•    Proven ability to work accurately from architectural plans and specifications‍ ‍

•    Reliable, consistent attendance and timekeeping — our sites run to a set programme‍ ‍

•    Comfortable working within a digital job management system for scheduling, timesheets and job tracking‍ ‍

•    The ability to lead others and communicate clearly with crew, sub-trades and clients‍ ‍

•    A full New Zealand driver licence‍ ‍

•    The right to work in New Zealand

‍ ‍

Preferred‍:

•    Licensed Building Practitioner (Carpentry), or an interest in working towards it. Our director holds the licence and supervises all restricted building work; none of our carpenters are licensed yet, and we’d genuinely support the right person to become the first. ‍

•    Experience with high-performance or above-Code construction ‍

•    Experience mentoring less experienced team members

What we offer:

•    A site that runs to time. Every job is properly scheduled in our management system, sub-trades are notified automatically when they’re needed, and we review the programme regularly. 7:30am–5:00pm Monday to Thursday, 4:00pm finish on Friday, with proper breaks — held, not aspirational.

•    Open, non-punitive discussion of labour performance. We track hours against allowance on every job and review it at each significant stage and monthly — while the job is still live, not as a post-mortem. We talk about it in both directions: the jobs that came in under as much as the ones that didn’t. It’s used to help people improve, not to catch them out.

•    A genuine progression path. Three real rungs — qualified carpenter, foreman running a site, and beyond that running a small crew across multiple projects and driving our systems. Each has a rate attached and clear criteria. We’ll walk you through it on the first call.‍ ‍

•    Honest about development: we don’t run a formal training programme and we don’t have a set training budget. What we do have is a director who will look seriously at funding or supporting anything you genuinely want to learn — a ticket, a course, or working towards your LBP. We’d rather tell you that straight than advertise a scheme we haven’t built yet.‍ ‍

•    Real development through the work itself — architectural, above-Code and complex alteration projects that will stretch you

•    Company vehicle / fuel card

•    Tool allowance ‍‍ ‍

On pay: we haven’t published a rate, because what we pay depends on what you bring. Call us and we’ll tell you the range in the first conversation, before you’ve told us anything about yourself.
